Harford Chamber’s Spirit of Thanks Event Brings Together Business Community and Veterans; Veteran-Focused Initiatives Announced

Bel Air, MD – The Harford County Chamber of Commerce’s Military Affairs Committee has traditionally hosted a Spirit of Thanks Tour each Fall in recognition and remembrance of our veterans. In the past, they have gathered members of the Harford County business community and local servicepeople to travel to historically significant locations such as Gettysburg National Battlefield and The National September 11 Memorial. Due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, the Harford County Chamber and the Harford County Office of Community and Economic Development created a new opportunity to celebrate our servicepeople this year.

On Tuesday, October 5th, the Harford County Chamber of Commerce hosted an event for servicemembers and their families at Hopkins Farm Brewery. Dignitaries and businesspeople attended to offer appreciation for the service and sacrifices of our military. The evening of thanks was made possible through the contributions from the following sponsors: Freedom Federal Credit Union; A. Bright Idea; The Kelly Group; Serenity Salt Spa; SURVICE Engineering; APGFCU; Beacon Environmental; Army Alliance; Battelle; Melnyk & Wiseman, LLC; Elegant Restoration, Inc.; Harford Community College; KatzAbosch; Jarrettsville Federal Savings & Loan Association; Harford County Office of Community & Economic Development; AUSA Major General Harry Greene Chapter; Chesapeake Bank; Billy Boniface for Harford County Executive; I95 Business; J. Vinton Shafer and Sons; and Southern Trust Mortgage.

Honoring Our Local Veterans

As this Veteran’s Day approaches, the Harford County Chamber of Commerce would like to announce two ways to give back and honor those who have served. First is the Perry Point Holiday Giving Campaign. Donations will be accepted at the Chamber Office (108 S. Bond St., Bel Air, MD 21014) through December 3rd from Monday to Thursday between the hours of 9am – 3pm. Please contribute holiday cards without religious messages, detachable parts, or glitter; full-size toiletries (shampoo, body wash, body/hand lotion, non-medicated baby powder, and denture adhesive); and easy to do craft kids such as paint by numbers. Nothing with alcohol can be accepted. Only alcohol-free mouthwash can be accepted on patients’ behalf.

Second, the Harford County Chamber’s Military Affairs Committee has organized a Wreaths Across America Chapter. Wreaths Across America coordinates wreath-laying ceremonies at military cemeteries across the country and abroad. The Military Affairs Committee will be laying wreaths at Aberdeen Proving Ground Cemetery to honor those who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Help remember, honor, and teach on December 18th, 2021 at 12:00pm by sponsoring a wreath, volunteering, or inviting friends to help. Learn more here.
