June 15, 2021
The Harford County Chamber of Commerce hosted its Annual Education & Scholarship Presentation virtually on Friday, June 11th, sponsored by Towson University of Northeastern Maryland and Harford Community College. This event celebrates the Harford Chamber Education Foundation scholarship recipients and Harford County Public Schools Teacher of the Year. Furthermore, this is a chance for the business community to come together with future leaders, while showing their support for the educational development in Harford County.
Through the Harford Chamber Education Foundation, scholarships are awarded annually to deserving high school seniors and returning adults in Harford County. As a business association, The Harford Chamber is proud to offer these scholarships for the education of young adults, with the hope that they will become contributing members of our local business community. This year, 11 scholarships were awarded in 7 categories.
The 2021 Harford County Public Schools Teacher of the Year, Lauren Byrd, was honored for excellence in the teaching profession. Mrs. Byrd is currently a first grade teacher at Hickory Elementary School. She shared her own inspiring story, and addressed scholarship recipients: “Perhaps one day in the future, you will return to this place, and become part of a new scholar’s story.” Mrs. Byrd was presented with The Golden Apple Award, sponsored by Lee Tayson, Liberty Mutual Insurance Agent, and Freedom Federal Credit Union.
